During my stay in Taipei, I enjoyed biking to the nearby mountain range. Its a quick 15-minute trip from Yuanshan, where I started my journey from the Corner Hostel & Cafe (小角落青旅咖啡) located next to the MRT station.
The route follows local streets from Yuanshan MRT Station to Yuanming mountain.
I explored a portion of the mountain range, reaching a peak of 500m. Venturing further could lead you to heights of around 1.000m. The expansive range offers ample opportunities for two to three days of cycling.
Going up is following Yingdedalu (仰德大陸), a relatively busy mountain street with some buses and trucks.
Alternative streets suggested by a friend with less traffic:
Xingyilu 行義路 and Yangtougonglu 陽投公路.
Near Yingdedalu you have the opportunity to visit the absolutely stunning National Palace Museum. The National Palace Museum is significant for its vast collection of Chinese artifacts spanning thousands of years. Originally in Beijing, during the Chinese Civil War, some artifacts were moved to Taiwan. I
Going down it is a fun side street which is pretty steep, lots of twists and hairpins. Best to be sure that your brakes are working properly!
The top has a very nice view of the Taipei skyline, quite similar to the more popular Elephant mountain.
